HSHI’s Safety Monitoring System to be Expanded to Subcontractors

Subcontractors of Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) are going to adopt HSHI’s in-house Safety Monitoring Program in view of its effectiveness in preventing industrial hazards. HSHI appointed 79 employees of subcontractors as safety monitors to raise the awareness of workplace safety on June 25.

HSHI introduced the Safety Monitoring Program in February 2015 to eliminate safety loopholes by detecting and correcting even the most trivial safety misbehaviors at the yard. While working on their jobs, the safety monitor reports inadequacies or failures in safety practices that may not be easily detected by the safety staff and managers, to the internal Occupational Safety Center (OSC).

Since its kick-off in February, OSC has received 687 reports and found solutions to 350 cases. HSHI expects that the participation of subcontractors in its Safety Monitoring Program will enhance the win-win relationship between HSHI and subcontractors on the basis of industrial safety. An HSHI official said, “The Safety Monitoring Program is highly meaningful in that it represents the concerted efforts of both the HSHI employees and subcontractors to ensure occupational safety and health.”
