Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) became the first shipbuilding company in Korea to develop a QR code system, which enables users to view the information of ship drawings on their smartphones. The feat comes after five months of research and development.

Thanks to the QR codes, which have been assigned to all production drawings of ships HSHI builds since last week, employees at the yard can easily check information including drawing revision status, block assembly schedules and even the inventory of materials at any time at their fingertips.

An HSHI official said, “We expect the QR code system to improve quality of ships we make and, in turn, to further strengthen our competitiveness. Moreover, we plan to develop a mobile application enabling users to check drawing data even without physical drawings.”
