HSHI succeeded to equip EGR system for the first time in the world

Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) announced today that they have succeeded to equip MAN B&W exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) technology for the vessel for the first time in the world.

Two ships, measuring 277m in length, 48m in width and 23m in height, ordered from a Turkish ship owner, Ditas Shipping, are Suezmax-sized crude oil tankers and the last vessel was delivered on October 23, 2017.

In order to reduce nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions to the International Maritime Organisation’s Tier III NOx standard, the Ditas Shipping Suezmax newbuild tankers feature MAN B&W 6G70ME-C9.5 two-stroke main engines integrated EGR that works by recirculating a portion of the engine’s exhaust gas back to the engine cylinders to reduce the amount of NOx that is formed during combustion.

This is the first vessel in the world with keel-laying after the January 1, 2016 to achieve the NOx emissions requirements, Tier III, set by the IMO.

HSHI has proven their competitiveness with eco-friendly design against environmental regulations in several projects as well.
