Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (CEO Yoon Moon-kyun) successfully placed the Sewol ferry, which had been lying on its side at Mokpo New port, in an upright position by 20 days ahead of the schedule, and all the proceeds from the works will be donated.

Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries announced that Sewol ferry was successfully lifted into an upright position using a 10,000-ton-capacity crane on the day.
On that day, about 10,430 ton Sewol ferry was turned upright, assuming the worst conditions such as weather and wind, and unexpected variables.
The steel beams under the ferry and its port side was installed and hinged to the ground, Sewol ferry placed in an upright position gradually in five steps by raising it by 35°, 40,° 50,° 55° degrees through 94.5° degrees.

In order to prevent unexpected delays caused by hull corrosion, many workers worked hard without New Year's Day and holidays, as a result, the Sewol was set upright about 20 days earlier than planed.
Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries, who finished the uplift works of Sewol ferry, will complete the following works including removing the support beams, securing passage for a further search and clearing up and then withdraw from the site of the Mokpo New port until June 10.

On the other hand, Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries has decided to donate the entire proceeds of the lifting works to share the pain of Seowal and express a deepest sympathy.
Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries president Yoon Moon-gyun said, "We have successfully carried out the tough task of lifting of the Sewol ferry to an upright position meticulously as a national project. And we will donate the entire profits at the right time to be used where necessary."
